Daniel Dillon
Principal
Orange County location
Since 1989, Daniel Dillon has worked directly in the electronics industry starting off initially as a design consultant for computer networking and EKG machine test equipment. For several years, Daniel worked in optical disc technology doing design of test equipment, analysis circuits, and CD and DVD media servers. His expertise on optical disc systems led him to work with patent attorneys on the analysis of electronics products to determine if there were any infringements of company owned patents and other IP.
Then in January of 2000, Zetex Semiconductors (recently purchased by Diodes, Inc.) approached Mr. Dillon to handle field applications engineering for California. Quickly, this role expanded into the Field Applications Engineer and territory manager for the North American Western Region where he was responsible for managing all sales, engineering, and design-win activity in the west with coverage over product groups including bipolar transistors, MOSFETs, Class D Audio Amplifiers, LED driver ICs, power management devices, and new product definition and specification. In this role, he constantly left the office to develop important relationships by meeting with customers all across the region and traveled to Europe at least annually to interface with corporate semiconductor design engineers and product marketing groups.
His work in digital audio continued with several consulting contracts for well-funded startups where his market understanding was used to develop the marketing plan and necessary product changes required for success in their newest development, a high performance digital amplifier platform.
In a consulting role, Mr. Dillon has done work in the following areas:
- LED Lighting, product definition, and cost-down analysis.
- Semiconductor BOM analysis for recommendations on cost savings through alternate or second sourcing or components.
- Class D Amplifier (discrete design) marketing, and PCB redesign for marketability.
- Class D Audio Amplifier licensing negotiations and product direction recommendations for designing around existing IP without infringement.
- Develop 2007/2008 sales plan for startup company new product release with an analysis of target customers, how to approach particular customers, how to taylor the pitch, and how to redesign the product for marketability and design around intellectual property prior art.
- Research, interview, recommend the hiring of design engineers for companies where the client could not determine proper qualifications.
- Assist semiconductor companies new to doing business in the US with the manufacturers' representative model of taking products to the American market.
